My early years were spent in a beautiful stone house, with a magical walled garden with my mum. She was a painter, so my earliest memories were of her canvases, paints and brushes throughout our home. She nurtured my creativity daily. We would paint and draw together, and I would watch her sew and make all her clothes, sometimes even from materials she painted. My environment was vibrant with colours, stories and art, and I was enveloped in a world of imagination.
My mask making journey was birthed from my love of story telling, costuming, and drag. I identified with the love of creating a fantasy, wearing your soul on the outside of your body, and the artistry of becoming something other than oneself. I was also able to really express my love of horror too, marrying the beautiful with the disturbing and birthing a line of creepy clowns, and a lot more creatures inspired from horror.
Each new mask I made was a new face, a new story. Who could this be? Where were they going? Where did they live? Anchoring each in a story became an integral process in constructing each piece, and as much enjoyment comes from this as it does from making, and seeing the final vision come to life.
I create masks for those who, like me, love to lean into an imaginary world, and play with taking on new, ethereal forms. Creating a custom service has been so important so that I can craft others’ visions, and breathe life into any fantasy.
